Installation & Design Considerations

• Solvent based membrane adhesives are incompatible with polystyrene insulation and require a cover board, typically 1/2” wood fiber, between the insulation and membrane.
• Water based adhesive can be used to adhere light color, chemically compatible membranes directly to polystyrene insulation.
• Dark color membranes must be separated from polystyrene roof insulation with a cover board, typically 1/2” wood fiber.
• Chemically incompatible membranes, such as PVC, require a slip sheet between the insulation and membrane.
• The need for, type and placement of vapor retarders should be determined by the building designer.
• Alternate deck materials; all FOAMULAR® roof insulations can be installed directly on concrete, gypsum, wood and Tectum decks.
