Concrete Deck

Installation & Design Considerations

  • FOAMULAR® or FIBERGLAS™ insulation board can be installed on the underside of concrete decks with mechanical fasteners, impaling pins or compatible adhesives.
  • Use, large head mechanical fasteners or minimum 1” washers to prevent fastener head from pulling through insulation.
  • The need for a vapor retarder should be determined by the designer based on local conditions.
  • In cold climates vapor retarders should be as continuous as possible. FOAMULAR® 250 has a perm rating less than 1.0. 700 Series facings have perm ratings less than .02.
  • Utilize Owens Corning BILD-R-TAPE® to seal joints between FOAMULAR® panels. Use a duct closure tape approved under Underwriters Laboratory 181 to seal the vapor retarder facing joints on 700 Series products.
  • Air circulating or vented from the ceiling plenum to an occupied space must be separated from the polystyrene insulation with a code approved thermal barrier.
  • Polystyrene insulation must be separated from the building interior with a code approved thermal barrier.
  • Compliance with local code requirements must be verified.
